Biographical Statement
I
can always recall having a profound need to create. Whether it was the carefully crafted sand castles of my early youth,
or the countless hours spent perfecting my sixth grade project of a plaster of Paris volcano, the process itself and the sense
of accomplishment I felt were among the strongest forces that influenced my early years. In those days, as with most children,
I did not view these endeavors as my expression of artistic effort; rather it was just something that was fun to do.
Yet, as the years went by I became more passionate about my art, and there were many experiences that helped influence my
creative direction. So how, you may ask, does this relate to Digital Art? Well, my extensive knowledge of computer systems
has helped me attain a comfort level that permits me to experiment with the technology. After all of these years, it has become
a natural outlet of my artistic expression. Rather than modeling my castles with sand and water, I now model them with
pixels. The countless hours I used to spend creating that perfect plaster volcano these days is not created with plaster
but is instead carefully drawn on a digital tablet and textured from scanned images which I have painted using the more traditional
methods. The process of creating Digital Art for me, is every bit as rich and complex as any other medium I have employed
in the past. And, in the final analysis, the aesthetic decisions an artist makes, not the tools they use, determines what
will be achieved.
